 Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard!

The Lorain County Visitors Bureau will celebrate National Tourism Week, May 10-18, 2008 along with hundreds of cities, states and businesses nationwide in the annual salute to travel and tourism in America. 

 

Lorain County’s celebration is built around the theme “Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard.” The Visitors Bureau is inviting residents on a day-long bus trip to county attractions on Wednesday, May 14th. Tour goers will learn about the exciting new initiatives and tourist related activities going on in Lorain County.  The tour will begin with breakfast at the Visitors Bureau’s Tourist Information Center on SR 58.  For $25 per person, participants will tour:

 

  • The former Lorain Ford Plant on Baumhart Road. See firsthand how this former auto-making plant is teeming with activity and how forward-thinking planners have rejuvenated and are bringing this property back to life.
  • Lorain's new Premier Soccer Academy. Guided tour of this new world-class sporting facility that houses soccer's future stars. See how PSA is bringing an international spotlight to Lorain
  • Lunch at the new Rose Cafe at Lakeview Park followed by tour of Lakeview Park and Historic Rose Garden.
  • Tour the Amherst Historical Society's Sandstone Center.
  • Coffee, tea and dessert sampling and cooking demonstration at Jefferson 150 restaurant
  • Hear about the upcoming Amherst Quarry Project “The Quarries at Beaver Creek” directly from the project manager as we drive through the picturesque location and look into one of the quarries.
  • Tour and wine tasting at Single Tree Winery
